What are Fleas?
Fleas are tiny brown or black external parasites that feed on mammals and birds by ingesting the blood of their host. Their bodies are flattened sideways which allows them to easily move through fur and easily attach to their hosts by using claws to keep them secured. Fleas pierce through the skin with their mouthparts which allows them to suck blood from their host.
There are 2,500 different species of the Flea which are found all over the world, including China, Russia, Australia and migrated into other areas by hitching a ride on mammals and birds.
Fleas can jump up to 50 times their body length because their hind legs are well-adapted for such distance and travel. This actually makes the Flea one of the best jumpers of all animals.
