What are Cockroaches?

Cockroaches are probably the oldest insect currently living on planet earth and date back to around 320 million years old. Cockroaches have about 4,600 different species within their group, however, only about 30 different species currently live among humans.

The most common species of Cockroaches living in New Jersey and surrounding states include the American Cockroach, German Cockroach, Asian Cockroach, Brown-banded Cockroach and the Oriental Cockroach.

Cockroaches are a common insect that can survive in a wide range of climates ranging from the Artic cold to the Tropical heat.

Are Cockroaches dangerous?

Cockroaches are considered to be dangerous to allergy sufferers since cockroaches are an allergen source and can trigger asthma. They also carry bacteria which can cause illnesses if left on food. Some of these illnesses include Salmonella, Staphylococcus and Streptococcus.

Cockroaches are extremely unhygienic scavengers that thrive and reproduce in human habitats.

Cockroaches do not bite, however, they can scratch humans and leave bacteria in the skin which could potentially become infected.

What effects do Cockroaches have on my home or business?

Cockroaches dont pose a serious threat to the structure of your home or business like termites, however, they do pose a serious health risk to humans if they are left unchecked once they have been spotted in a residential or commercial property.

Without any proper Cockroach treatment, your New Jersey residential or commercial property may endure many effects from these intrusive pests. The most common effect is the bacteria and excrement they leave on surfaces which can be transferred through regular contact made with common and shared areas.

Cockroaches have been known to increase asthma and allergy attacks since their bacteria/excrement can be inhaled.  Their presence can have an extremely negative effect on your business or residential property.

How do I prevent Cockroaches?

Service24 Pest control exterminators suggest keeping your home clean and not leaving food or dirty dishes out overnight. If you have pets, make sure to put their food in sealed containers so cockroaches cannot consume their food. Be sure to take kitchen trash outside and away from your home. Be sure to keep your home free of clutter such as newspapers, magazines and dirty clothes since this is inviting to cockroaches and can quickly cause an infestation.
